Elsa’s Kopje – Our view

The most significant feature of Elsa’s, apart from the views that stretch for years and the perfect tranquility, is the staff and their attitude in the camp. The camp makes a point of growing most of its own produce and so boasts a wonderful selection of fresh vegetables with which to cook.

Elsas Private House – Our view

The Private House is a really great option as it has its own pool and staff and therefore really feels as if you are on your own in the middle of this great park. Meru has long been held by real safari fans as the park to visit in Kenya due to its diverse topography and interesting wildlife. If you are going to visit and can afford it, stay in the private house!

Joy's Camp – Our view

Shaba National Park is probably one of the least known in Kenya...and long may it remain that way! Joy's was completed in 2007 and is a stunning, semi tented camp set on the fringes of a small lagoon complex. The park is relatively small in size, but has a whole range of different habitats to keep the traveller interested, with striped hyena being a particular favourite. With a reasonable price tag these days, Joy's is probably one of our top 10 in Kenya.

Sarara Camp – Our view

Sarara is the germination of the thoughts and beliefs of Ian Craig and Piers and Hilary Bastard, and is a superb example of how community projects can work in Africa to protect the wildlife. With a small and intimate feel to the camp and, as it is still managed by Piers and Hilary, it is a great spot to get a bit of relaxation, a bit of community interaction with the local Samburu (especially the singing wells), and a bit of game.

Kitich Camp – Our view

Since it has recently changed hands, Kitich Camp has moved away from the once very rustic experience it was with Guilio. There is still no compromising on the experience, but with electricity throughout the night it is has a slightly softer feel. The onus is still, however, very much on getting out into this stunning region with walking a particular recommendation. If you are looking for a touch of utter wilderness and a great place to relax….the only drawback is getting there!
