Lewa Wilderness Trails – Our view
Lewa Wilderness is probably our pick of the lodges in the Lewa Conservancy as it combines a whole spread of both activities and privacy. Each of the cottages is very spacious and gives you the feeling of total privacy while not feeling cut off from the lodge itself. As an actual home, the communal areas feel welcoming and comfortable with the swimming pool area and bar being particular favourites! The conservancy itself offers a wide spread, catering to pretty much any taste with walks with rhino, horse riding and some truly fantastic safari with the opportunity to view some of Africa’s rarest animals. It is true that the conservancy is a fenced in area, but, in comparison with most of Kenya’s other major safari areas, this region and camp are definitely in the running.

Lewa Wilderness Trails – The Detail
Lewa was once a cattle ranch; it then became a heavily guarded black rhino sanctuary, and it is now the headquarters for a non-profit wildlife conservancy, which has gained a world-wide reputation for extending the benefits of conservation beyond its borders.
Located over in the western corner of the conservancy, Lewa Wilderness is the home for Will and Emma Craig and provides a welcome and cosy recluse. The lodge itself is a small collection of private cottages that all look out across the vast plains of the Laikipia plateau, centered around the large manor house and dining area of the main house. Each of the cottages features a private verandah, master bedroom and sitting area, all tastefully decorated and built with seclusion and privacy in mind.
The communal areas of the lodge are all set along the side of a small valley which allow for stunning view out from the dining, outside sitting and pool areas. Quite often elephant can be seen grazing the slopes on the opposite bank. With a full, clay tennis court and pool the lodge is well suited to families.
