  • Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara – Our view

This is the smaller &Beyond property that lies just next to the infamous Bateleur Tented Camp. Where Bateleur is aimed at the very top end of the market, Kichwa is aimed at less of an expensive price bracket. Featuring a good standard of rooms, the camp is located not far from the entrance to the Mara Reserve.

This is not a bad option if you are looking to save your money, but we would say it is slightly large and, for the money, you may be better to have a look at The Governors’ Camps which are set inside the Reserve.

Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara – The Facts

  • A small but well positioned pool with good views
  • Good for families

  • Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara – The Detail

Immortalised through famous tales of olden day safaris, the Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the richest and most diverse wildlife areas in the world. Known as the ‘spotted land’ to the Maasai, the reserve is home to a vast number of resident wildlife, as well as part of the annual phenomenon of the Great Migration. The migratory wildebeest, zebra, kongoni and topi join abundant elephant, hippo, buffalo, giraffe, lion and cheetah in the Mara. Leopard and serval are frequently encountered, while endangered black rhino can be found in the dense bush thickets.

The Mara River is also famed for its enormous crocodiles, which lay in wait for the wildebeest and zebra during the excitement and drama of the migration. Six species of primates and over 450 birds add to the Mara’s incredible natural diversity.

The camp commands fantastic views out across the plains of this famous region and plays host to the vast herds of wildebeest that roam through the rolling grasslands for approximately 4 months of the year from August until November. Out of this period, this is an idyllic setting to spend a few days walking and generally taking in one of the last true wildernesses in the world.
