Loisaba Starbedsare the conception of the owner Tom and his brother, who originally converted the ranch into what it is today. The starbeds, both Kiboko and Koija, are made up of 2 double beds and 1 twin each. The rooms themselves are basically wooden platforms with a large balcony onto which the starbed can be rolled so it is then out under the stars. Whether by the river or up in the hills, the experience is truly unique and the feeling of being in touch with the nature around you is second to none.

Boranais set up in the rolling hills that overlook the Lewa Downs, on the edge of the Samangua Valley. Originally, and still, a working cattle ranch, the name for the lodge comes from the Boran cattle that wander the region. Each of the 6 stone cottages nestles into the side of a small valley which looks out upon a watering hole.Built from local stone and wood, each room is spacious and warm as, at 6,500 feet, there can be a chill in the air in the evening. With ensuite bathrooms and baths, the rooms all have large windows from which to admire the outstanding view. As it is still a privately owned area of 35,000 acres, all fenced, the game here does not migrate and so there is usually a good chance of seeing one of the many lions or elephant on horseback, in a car, or, if lucky, on foot.

Sabukis a small hill top lodge set on a valley of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Totalling 7 rooms, each having been built out of the local stone and olive wood, the views across the valley and to the river below are memorable. The rooms themselves have been well thought out and each has an open side that looks out across the valley making the most of the view. Open air showers and large verandas add to the sense of space and wilderness. The communal area is made up of a large dining table and comfortable lounge with open fire and veranda. The camp is especially famous for camel trekking, but swims in the pool and fly camping in the local area are also a speciality. With great food and very personal service from Verity, Sabuk offers a real touch of widerness and beauty. The rooms are all well maintained and have great views and the area benefits from having good game year round. Generally a lovely spot to relax for a few days after a trip to the Mara…the camel rides are especially worth it!
