House of WaineThe House of Waine is a small, upmarket house set in the quiet Nairobi suburb of Karen (once home to the famous writer, Karen Blixen). The house, itself, is a modern replica of the old colonial houses that were once the norm of this leafy region.

House of Waine – The DetailHouse of Waine was originally built in the 1970’s as a private home. It was acquired by its present owners, a local family, and carefully refurbished over two and a half years resulting in the unique boutique property that exists today. The local area has been favoured by some famous names in its time and is currently known as Karen after its famous namesake that chose to stay in its leafy suburbs, benefitting from the famous views of the Ngong Hills in the distance. The hotel itself benefits from having gardens that stretch out to approximately 2.5 acres. This lends a realy feeling of seclusion to the place and therefore it is possible to forget that you are just a stone’s throw from the centre of Nairobi. Each of the 11 rooms has been carefully designed with a different scheme in mind and so each has its own air and views out onto the gardens below.
House of Waine – Our viewThere are quite a few hotels that are located in the Karen district of Nairobi and this is certainly the best of them…both from a price point of view but also for the fact that it has a personal feel. Where quite a few of the hotels in and around Nairobi have a faceless rapport with their clientele, the House of Waine can easily be recommended for a couple of nights, used as a basing point to visit the nearby Giraffe Centre or Blixen Museum.
