It is a rustic, tented camp set in a forest of Acacia Tortilis thorn trees; from which the camp gets its name. The main feature of the camp is the view of the Amboseli plains and Mount Kilimanjaro towering above it. This camp has won numerous awards including the British Airways Regional Award for Ecotourism and a place on the Conde Nast Travellers 2005 Gold list.
It is located near lake Natron on the edge of the Nguruman escarpment overlooking the Great Rift valley. This provides incredible views and a welcome breeze from the heat of the African sun.
It lies in the foothills of the Chyulu Range, the youngest range of volcanic hills in Africa. The rolling hills and the snow topped Kilimanjaro rising from the plain are truly stunning.
