The most recent update from the Kenyan Authorities regardign the situation in Kenya...
"The situation remains the same in terms of Foreign & Commonwealth Office Travel Advisory and we continue to receive updates from the private sector in Kenya on the situation.
o The scheduled carriers, Kenya Airways, British Airways & Virgin Atlantic Airways are operating their daily schedules as normal from London Heathrow to Nairobi and from Nairobi International Airport to London Heathrow. KLM and Swiss services via Amsterdam and Zurich continue as normal.
o All international flights continue to transit normally through Nairobi International Airport to onward destinations.
o Unless otherwise notified via the FTO all charter flights to Mombasa continue to operate departing flights as usual and as per timetable. Outbound legs are being flown empty whilst the FCO’s Travel Advisory is in place
o A unified cancellation policy for all the Kenyan Tourism Industry is expected imminently. We will forward it as soon as it is available.
o The Foreign & Commonwealth Office Travel Advisory is being consistently updated and now includes references to the calming situation. This site should be referred to frequently. www.fco.gov.uk
The following is a statement from the Kenya Tourism Federation issued at 16.00 GMT today, Thursday 10th January
“Once again in Nairobi and Mombasa all is quiet and there has been no change to the situation of calm which has prevailed all week.
All roads between airports and hotels in Nairobi and Mombasa are open and traffic is flowing as normal. All safari departures took place as usual with no problems reported on any of the roads to the parks and reserves. In Mombasa, City tours are operating once again.
In Nairobi, it was reported that a procession of women heading for a prayer meeting at a church near the Hurlingham area were forced to disperse by police as marches, demonstrations and rallies are not permitted at present. This did not result in any serious disturbance or disruption.
There were no reports of any incidents or problems affecting tourists in any of Kenya’s parks and reserves or on any of the roads connecting them.
There are no reports of any demonstrations in Kisumu today but the advice of the Kenya Tourism Federation is that the Kisumu-Kericho-Eldoret areas should continue to be off-limits for tourists for the time being.” Comment by Jake Grieves-Cook, KTF Spokesman"
